A Lusty Affair in Crown Heights

I've always loved the Crown Heights Affair for their gallant attire on their album sleeves as well as their incredibly incredible disco soul ways. One track stands out in particular on the "Think Positive" Lp = "Wine & Dine You". It explains itself clearly!!~~Enjoy til next time!

Here's what Wikipedia has to say.

Crown Heights Affair was an R&B / funk / disco group from New York, founded in the early 1970s. Originally known as Neu Day Express, the group took their new name from a district of their native Brooklyn, and consisted of Phil Thomas, William "Deadbeat Dad" Anderson, Howard Young, Bert Reid, James Baynard, Raymond Reid, Muki Wilson and Raymond Rock. Signed by RCA they recorded a self titled debut album in 1974.
Personnel changes followed, along with a shift to De-Lite Records, the then home of Kool and the Gang. The record label's subsequent liaison with Polygram Records saw the group gain worldwide audiences for singles such as "Dreaming A Dream", "Every Beat of My Heart", "Foxy Lady", and "Dancin'".
"Dreaming A Dream" hit Number one on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1975, (plus Billboard Hot 100 #43); and they topped out at #2 on the dance chart later that year with "Every Beat Of My Heart" (Billboard Hot 100 #83). In the UK they made the Top 10 in 1980 with "You Gave Me Love".

Trivia::De-Lite Records offices/studio was located right above what is now know as RockStar Bar in Williamsburg Brooklyn's Southside. Kool & The Gang recorded out of that studio around the same time::Thanks for the scoop Lupe Loop!!

Cristina=A World of Introspective Musak

I just came across these tracks the other day & I was totally mezzmorized!! No-Wave continues to surprise me every time I come across a record from that era!! She also has a song called "Disco Clone" with Kevin Kline as in Kevin Kline the actor.~~Wow~~

QUEEN CRISTINA
Is the world (finally) ready for the wit and wisdom of new-wave icon Cristina?

In his 2002 memoir, Strange: Punks and Drunks, Flicks and Kicks, British perfor-mer Richard Strange describes early-'80s new- wave singer Cristina as "elegant, intelligent, beautiful and the wittiest girl I have ever met. In a sassier, zestier, brighter, funnier world, Cristina would have been Madonna." Unfortunately, our world is desperately lacking in the sass department, and it didn't know what the hell to make of Cristina Monet. Far from becoming a threat to the similarly mono-named Madonna, she achieved merely cult status, retiring from music in 1984 after two brilliant, eccentric albums (an eponymous debut and Sleep It Off) in which she daringly juxtaposed disco and Kurt Weill, Van Morrison and Latin rhythms at a time when her New York peers thought punk-funk was bold. It has taken 20 years for these discs to come back into print, but thanks to the efforts of ZE Records, we can bask in Cristina's glory once again.

Looks Like the Bay City Rollers Promote Rockin' Disco Grooves

I've had this record for a long time, it just seems like I never got around to hearing the whole thing until now. I'm glad the Rollers visited discoville for one cut on this LP...The Disco Kid.

Rock N'Roll Love Letter is a rock album by the Bay City Rollers. It was a US-only release, issued in early 1976 by Arista Records

I Always Have A Hankerin' To Listen To Sum BT Express

The thing about these guys is that they've always had one or two great tracks on their albums. The band formed in 1974 in good ole' Brooklyn, NY. Not to long after that they got signed to Scepter Records. Their first record "Do it Til Your Satisfied" went gold. The group's second single "Express" also went gold. In 1977 they signed with Columbia Records & recorded the following albums, "Shout It Out" & "Energy to Burn".
Brooklyn Borough President Howard Golden honored the group with a parade to Brooklyn's City Hall, where they were presented with a citation for their musical achievements and a proclamation declaring that day, B.T. EXPRESS DAY. ( B.T. stands for Brooklyn Transit).
They also got to performed for President Jimmy Carter and the White House staff...

John Carpenter Makes It Look So Easy~~~

Not only is John Carpenter a genius film maker, he's also a music making fiend. He always scores his films & produces half of the soundtrack for them. We can have a Carpenter cinema camp out if any of you guys are interested but for now I dug up this little gem from the "Escape From New York" Soundtrack. It definately sound like a No-Wave groove. I wouldn't be surprised if he hung out in LES in the 80's at the MuddClub.

What a Guys, What a Guy!! Mr. Dick Hyman

I've always loved how people used to sample Dick Hyman for hip hop tracks back in the 90's. There's one Busta Ryhmes song that was based on a sample off the Dick Hyman album "Moog- The Electric Eclectics of Dick Hyman" the sampled song is called "The Minotaur". Busta's song is "Where We're About To Take It".

Anyways he's got a ton of spaceage bachelor type tunes & totally has the swave jazz guy thing down as well. One of my peeps had the balls to spin "The Minotaur" out one nite at the RockStar Bar & my jaw dropped because i've never hear anyone dj any of his stuff out. Another on of my favorites is "The Liquidators", which in my mind is the perfect opening credit song in any Euro-Mod film.

Born March 8, 1927, New York City) is an American jazz pianist/keyboardist and composer best known for his versatility with jazz piano styles. Over a 50 year career he has functioned as pianist, organist, arranger, music director, and, increasingly, as composer. His versatility in all of these areas has resulted in well over 100 albums recorded under his own name and many more in support of other artists.

You Can't Pull The Wool Over Lydia Lunch's Eyes!!

After arriving in New York City at the age of 16, Lunch moved into a large communal household of artists and musicians in NYC, including Kitty Bruce, daughter of Lenny Bruce. Soon after she earned the surname "Lunch" by regularly stealing lunches for her (often starving) artist friends. After befriending the 'godfathers of punk' Suicide at Max's Kansas City, she founded the short-lived but influential No Wave band Teenage Jesus & the Jerks in 1976 with her artistic partner, No Wave punk-funk-jazz musician James Chance. Both appeared on the seminal No Wave compilation No New York. Lunch later appeared on two songs on Chance's album Off White (credited to James White and the Blacks; Lunch used the pseudonym "Stella Rico") in 1978.
She's a true maverick & one of the best artist that came out of the NYC No-Wave era.

Evidence of Musical Snobbery

Greetings all & welcome to our blog which is called "Let Me Play One More". Frankly this was the first thing that came to mind for the fact that whenever me & my friends play records at bars & lounges we have this urge to play another song or two after the lights come up while people are still hangin' around totally danced out of their minds getting kicked out because the nights over.

Here's the thing, they want to hear music, we want to hear music but the bouncer says no or he'll come over and turn down the faders on the dj mixer or the bartender turns the sound down from behind the bar. There are plenty of scenarios concerning the end of the night & party people still thirsty for more. Needless to say there is a select group of people that are djs & music heads that hangout after hours at someone's place that has turntables and the freedom to listen to records at 5 in the morning with a bunch of your lively friends. That's actually when we get to listen to some of the best music ever. Those that partake in this ritual know what i'm talking about.

The first track i'll drop is one that I hardly spin out but it kicks ass.
It's Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch (1977)
It's was on the first record she made for TK Records
One Love was the second 12''
I start the song about halfway through here's the edit enjoy!!
